WL//WH Track Of The Day: DER MIST “Orange” [Disanorak]

Indonesian post-punk trio Der Mist has released their debut Demo EP, a three-track cassette featuring the track “Orange.” The project draws inspiration from Ingmar Bergman’s “Winter Light” and channels the dreamy romanticism of early New Order alongside the Manchester post-punk aesthetic of the late 1970s and early 1980s. “Orange” showcases the band’s moody production, characterized by syncopated percussion, melancholic bass work, minimal angular guitar, icy synthesizers, and introspective male vocals reflecting on nostalgia. A notable rework titled “Wild Strawberries” by collaborator Maulana Akbar of Ultraviolence bridges Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain, exploring haunting, contemplative soundscapes. While rooted in familiar post-punk conventions, the track offers a refreshing nostalgic appeal. Der Mist is scheduled to perform at Jakarta PopFest in June 2026.
