Everytime – first-look review

Sandra Wollner’s third feature presents a grief-stricken ensemble navigating loss following a young woman’s fatal plunge from a high-rise building. Birgit Minichmayr anchors the narrative as Ella, a mother grappling with trauma and unresolved blame toward Lux, her deceased daughter’s ex-partner. When Lux unexpectedly resurfaces a year later, dormant guilt resurfaces among the fractured family unit. The group embarks on a Canary Islands vacation—originally planned before the tragedy—accompanied by Wollner’s younger ensemble cast members. Shot by cinematographer Gregory Oke with intimate handheld techniques reminiscent of contemporary arthouse practice, the film veers toward magical realism when a mysterious child materializes during the journey. Wollner’s prior works The Impossible Picture and The Trouble With Being Born established her reputation for austere, psychologically complex cinema exploring embodiment and trauma within a distinctly European sensibility.
