Bad Decisions Bite Back in New England Darkwave Trio Ghost Painted Sky’s Video for Kissing Lions

Ghost Painted Sky, a New England darkwave trio formed in Massachusetts in 2014, released a video for “Kissing Lions” from their forthcoming album Failure Blooms. The song explores the human tendency to make reckless decisions when faced with boredom and disappointment, using the metaphor of kissing lions despite knowing they will bite. Vocalist Lisa Wood joined the project in 2018, followed by guitarist Michael Boudreau in 2022, with violinist Aurora Grabill contributing to the album. The accompanying video combines 8mm footage from David Strong’s grandfather Herbert Virta with material from a 2023 virtual performance and August 2026 footage from The Heavy Culture Cooperative in Easthampton, Massachusetts, featuring projected visuals by Daisy. The maxi-single includes a remix and the track “My Words Are Not My Own,” mixed and mastered by William Faith. This release follows their 2018 album Flightless.
