A Certain Ratio announce ‘The Joy of Sextet’ and ‘Force Majeure’ on Mute

A Certain Ratio, the Manchester post-punk and funk pioneers, will release two companion albums through Mute on 28 August 2026. “The Joy of Sextet” remixes material from their 1982 Factory Records album “Sextet,” with producer Andy Meecham (The Emperor Machine) working from original 1981 multitrack tapes while preserving the raw energy. “Force Majeure” pairs with their 1986 album “Force,” featuring nine previously unreleased tracks sourced from four-track recordings made by late co-producer Stuart James, including the title track absent from the original release. Both albums commemorate significant anniversaries—45 years since “Sextet” was recorded and 40 years since “Force” emerged. The releases arrive on limited purple vinyl, CD, and digital formats. The band will support these reissues with a UK tour in October 2026, performing both albums in full with an interval separating the sets.
